Shell Island Resort Weddings // Rebecca and Chris

This was the second wedding this season that I shot at Shell Island Resort– and this place does not disappoint (even when it’s raining!!).  If you want to get married on the beach, then this is the place.  It’s located on the northern tip of Wrightsville Beach with nothing but clean waves, sand dunes, and pelicans from the moment you step onto the sand.  We were watching the weather all day to see if there would be a break in the rain, but to no avail.  It was wet pretty much all afternoon.  That didn’t stop Rebecca, Chris and their wedding party though.  They came down from PA for a southern beach wedding, and that was what they were going get.  I was stoked when they decided that the show must go on.  I spent much of the ceremony hopping from one umbrella to another trying to keep the gear dry- hilarious!  It turned out beautiful though, and everyone had a great time.  The only bummer was that we didn’t get a chance to spend any real time getting good shots of the bride and groom alone before, or after the ceremony.  Luckily, towards the end of the party Rebecca realized that the rain had let up for a few minutes.  We grabbed some gear and ran to the front of the resort where a tidal creek meanders by.  The grass and reeds are perfect for cool portraits.  Luckily, with the help of a tripod and uber-long exposures we were able to pull off a few great shots.  In the couple shots below where they are standing in the grass, its about 11pm and pitch black.  Instead of using a flash, the frame was exposed for about 2.5 seconds at f1.8 (for you camera nerds).  To focus, I had the groom hold his lit cell phone so the camera could see where they were.  From there, it was just stand as still as possible 🙂  Oh, and we were all standing in about 4 inches of rain water.  These two were troopers!  Congratulations Rebecca and Chris, and thanks so much for having me be a part of this great day.  Special thanks to A Beautiful Event for always rocking the floral arrangements, and to Jay Tatum and Active Entertainment for keeping that party moving all. night. long!
