Poplar Grove Plantation, located just north of Wilmington NC on Route 17 is a historic southern estate plantation. The plantation was originally owned by the widow of Cornelius Harnett. Later, the property which once included Figure Eight Island became the home of the Foy family, an American family of French Huguenot descent, from 1795 until 1971. If you are looking for rustic charm, this is one of the most beautiful indoor/outdoor wedding venues in Wilmington. With giant oak trees draped in spanish moss, the mansion to get ready in and a large barn for an indoor reception, this wedding spot is an absolute must see if you are planning to get married in southeastern NC. The sprawling grounds, trails and animal life make Poplar Grove Plantation a photographers dream and a beautiful place for engagement, bridal and wedding photography. Just exploring around Poplar Grove Plantation for a few minutes will make this wedding venue a top of the list option. The Poplar Grove Plantation staff is always incredibly helpful, and we always love shooting weddings here. It is one of the few outdoor wedding venues that can host larger weddings, but also has plenty of space inside and restrooms making it a very versatile Wilmington area wedding venue. And although Poplar Grove Plantation is know for it’s beautiful grounds, a quick drive up the road will let newlyweds access beautiful rustic fields so there are many options for photography during a wedding day. Of all the different areas of Poplar Grove Plantation, probably the most well known for wedding ceremonies is the pergola just outside of the main house- a beautiful brick path leads up to the ceremony site making for gorgeous wedding ceremony photography. And although it’s one of many different spots you can have a wedding ceremony here, it’s one of my favorites. It is the perfect southern backdrop for a gorgeous Poplar Grove Plantation wedding.
